Want a nostalgic comfort food from your childhood? Only even better then you remember! Try this beefed up Sloppy Joe on homemade buns….WHAT!!!!! did I just say ON HOMEMADE BUNS!…. yes! Your family is going to go nuts for this!
I’m making the sauce this afternoon and letting it hang out in the crock pot all afternoon but you can just make it and eat it right then if you like. I like to use my Crock Pot so if someone gets stuck in traffic we can just eat when ever everyone is ready, or if you have kids on the go with conflicting activity schedules they can eat as they roll in.
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup minced carrots
- 1 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 cups tomato sauce (or 1 15-ounce can whole tomatoes, puréed)
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp red wine/or apple cider vinegar
- 1 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Sauté the carrots, onions, celery, and garlic in the olive oil, when onions are transparent dump in crock pot.
Using that same pan, fry up hamburger until cooked through, drain, and add to crock pot.
Add all the remaining ingredients to the crock pot give a good stir, and set to low until ready to serve.
THEN!!! put it on these lovely Homemade Buns.
